Georg Rafael Vineyards is the latest venture of Georg Rafael, renowned hotelier, one of the principals of Regent International Hotels and founder of the Rafael Group Hoteliers, an exclusive group of luxury boutique hotels, which he sold to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group in May 2000.
German-born and internationally trained, Georg Rafael co-founded Regent International Hotels. Upon his appointment as Executive Vice President, Georg Rafael moved to New York to oversee all U.S. and European operations for Regent International. He negotiated the acquisitions of such famous Regent hotels as The Dorchester in London, New York's Mayfair Regent and The Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles.
Georg Rafael was also responsible for the construction of The Regent of Washington, D.C., and Hawaii's Halekulani Hotel.
After selling his interest in Regent, Georg Rafael established Rafael Hotels Limited in London in 1986.
Rafael Hotels lately comprised seven hotels worldwide including such world-renowned establishments as The Mark in New York, the Rafael in Munich and the Hôtel du Rhône in Geneva.
Georg Rafael sold Rafael Hotels Limited to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group in 2000 and most recently embarked on another independent venture as Managing Director of the newly formed Rafael Group S.A.M. based in Monaco. The group acts primarily as a holding company for its hotel investments and assists in the development of international deluxe hotel properties.
